The owner of a Brazilian driving school named after Rubens Barrichello revealed today that the driver's recent misfortunes made the Ferrari driver a target of local jokes, but said he has no regrets about the school title despite the inevitable jibes.
Deucreciano Aguiar said his instructors were derided regularly as they drove around Rio de Janeiro in cars bearing the words "Barrichelo Driving School" - missing an "l" because of an employee's mistake - painted on the side.
"As soon as somebody sees the name of the school, the mickey-taking starts," Aguiar said today. "Every day its a different joke, such as 'can you teach me how to crash into the back of another car'. Or, 'show me how to do those crazy things he does on the track'."
Aguiar said the name was a tribute and he would continue to support Barrichello. "He's not a national joke. I support him all the time and I think Brazilians should get behind him," Aguiar said, adding his school had a good pass rate.
But not even Aguiar could not resist a quick taunt. "If he wants to do a refresher course, we've got a nice cheap one here," he said. "I'll give him
a good discount."
