Jaguar's Niki Lauda has admitted he plans to launch an investigation to clarify the situation after it emerged that team boss Bobby Rahal tried to sell Eddie Irvine to the Jordan team.
According to paddock rumours, Rahal held talks with Eddie Jordan - who was looking for a driver following Heinz-Harald Frentzen's exit - in order to make room at Jaguar for Finn Mika Hakkinen or Italian Giancarlo Fisichella, who are still to make an announcement about their future in Formula One.
Lauda, Ford's Premier Division CEO, refused to comment on the issue but admitted the company would investigate the situation: "I don't want to talk about it now, but we will be looking into it next week," said Lauda at the Hungarian Grand Prix last Sunday.
Reportedly, Irvine's manager Enrico Zanarini confirmed the Jordan offer, which could mean Rahal's position at the Milton Keynes team may be at risk.
