Verstappen's Arrows Seat in Jeopardy

Tuesday December 4th, 2001

Dutchman Jos Verstappen could be on the verge of losing his seat at Arrows after the team failed to name him on the official FIA entry list for 2002.

Verstappen has signed a deal to race for Arrows next season, but the team appears to be lining up sacked Jordan star Heinz-Harald Frentzen as a replacement.

"Why he was not on the list is not our business," said Verstappen's manager Huub Rothengatter. "That is down to the team. All I can say is that we have a signed deal to race for Arrows in 2002 and there have been no discussions otherwise."

However, an Arrows spokesperson added: "Heinz-Harald Frentzen did see (team boss) Tom (Walkinshaw). We are going to announce our driver line-up as soon as we can."

Verstappen's teammate Enrique Bernoldi was not on the list either, but Arrows are expected to retain him due to his significant backing from sponsors Red Bull. Minardi also failed to confirm their drivers on the first list, but Malaysian Alex Yoong is contracted to drive for the team next season.

Cash-strapped French team Prost were the only other outfit without two named drivers on the list. Arrows, Minardi and Prost have until February 28, 2002, to confirm their driver line-up for next season.
