Jordan Seek Title Sponsor as B&H Shrink Funds

Friday December 7th, 2001

Jordan Grand Prix are currently left without a title sponsor for the 2002 season, according to sources.

Benson & Hedges, the title sponsor for the Silverstone-based team, are currently re-evaluating their sponsorship expenses, with inside sources citing the global financial slump as reason to limiting their marketing funds overall.

The FIA had entered Jordan as 'Jordan Honda', after five years where the team was named 'Benson & Hedges Jordan Honda'. The team also removed Benson & Hedges from the homepage of its own official website, although the cigarette maker is still listed among the team's sponsors.

Jordan Grand Prix explained the absence of a title sponsor in the FIA's provisional entry list by saying the team is still negotiating with several potential sponsors, including Benson & Hedges.

However, sources at B&H told Atlas F1 the company is not likely to shell out the same amount of money as before, and will reduce its involvement in Formula One significantly. Previously B&H were reported to pay Jordan more than $30 million a year.
