Button Begins Kenyan Fitness Quest

Wednesday December 12th, 2001

Jenson Button begins his build-up to a crucial 2002 season on Wednesday as the Briton starts a nine-day fitness training programme in Kenya.

Renault driver Button and his new teammate Jarno Trulli will be put through a rigourous schedule of fitness work in Africa by the team's fitness guru Bernie Shrosbree.

21-year-old Button plans to use the spell in Kenya to ensure he is rid of a long-standing shoulder problem as well as a persistent back injury, which hampered him during 2001. Part of Shrosbree's plans are to send Button and Trulli up and down Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain.

The awesome mountain towers 5895 metres above sea level, and although the drivers are not due to climb to the top, they will be working at different levels on the trail to improve fitness at altitude.
