Michael Schumacher collected his World Championship award in a glittering FIA prize-giving ceremony at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club in the presence of the principality's royal family on Friday night.
In front of a 400-strong audience that included FIA president Max Mosley, FOA president Bernie Ecclestone, 1982 World Champion Keke Rosberg and numerous champions from across the world of motor sport, Ferrari driver Schumacher collected his award alongside World Rally Championship winner Richard Burns and F3000 Championship winner Justin Wilson.
Picking up his fourth World Championship trophy was the start of a busy weekend for Schumacher, who has not been seen in public since late October. After the evening in Monaco, he moved on to Ferrari's base of Maranello for a weekend of festivities in both nearby Modena and Bologna.
He was joined on the stage in Monaco by team principal Jean Todt who collected the team's 11th World Constructors' trophy. Briton David Coulthard and Schumacher's teammate Rubens Barrichello were also present to collect their respective second and third place awards.
McLaren driver Coulthard donned a kilt for the black-tie event and was joined on the stage by fellow Scotsman Colin McRae, who collected his trophy for second in the World Rally Championship behind Burns.
