Slow Ticket Sales for Malaysian GP

Thursday February 22nd, 2001

Sepang, MalaysiaOrganisers of the Malaysian Grand Prix have confirmed that only 35 per cent of tickets have been sold for the event, which follows just two weeks after the season opener in Australia.

Circuit manager Azmi Murad is confident that sales will receive a last minute boost when the season begins, despite previous races in Malaysia not attracting great interest from the local public: "Usually, at the last minute ticket sales of F1 will get a boost. We believe that the sales will pick up drastically after the first leg in Australia next week."

"But, I am happy to note that the sales are fast improving. Hopefully, we can maintain, if not surpass, the 80,000-odd figures that we had recorded at the past two Grand Prix".

Murad also denied that ticket prices were to blame for the lack of ticket sales.
