Benetton's human performance manager Bernie Shrosbree has backed Jenson Button to become a Formula One world champion of the future and said that it could happen sooner than expected.
Briton Button met former marine Shrosbree for the first time at the team's training camp in Lanzarote last week and Shrosbree was impressed by the 20-year-old driver's attitude.
One-time special unit operative Shrosbree is convinced Button has the necessary attributes to reach the top of the sport and believes it will happen before most people expect.
"You look at young drivers when they come into Formula One and they are looking at what they can buy next," Shrosbree said. "To be fair to Jenson he wasn't like that and he admitted he wasn't fit enough.
"He obviously has an exceptional talent but he wants to work hard on his fitness and I don't think it will be too long before we see him crowned as a Formula One champion.
"He has the right attitude and he can go all the way to the top. When a driver wants to better his fitness it is a good sign and Jenson is dedicated to improving and that is a good sign."
