According to reports, the struggling Minardi team will meet Renault representatives this week in order to try and secure an engine deal which would save the Italian outfit.
With less than 45 days to go before the start of the 2001 season, Minardi are yet to find not only an engine deal, but also a major sponsor who could pay for that engine following the failure of the PSN deal, who was set to buy a majority stake in the team.
Renault's option, which would mean Minardi would use customer Supertec engines in 2001, is thought to be the last opportunity for the small team to make it to the grid in Melbourne next March, though the odds are against them as the French manufacturer has repeatedly expressed its total commitment to Benetton.
If the Supertec option falls through, the legendary team could disappear from Formula One.
