Former Formula One World Champion Nigel Mansell will be back at the wheel of a Grand Prix car when he drives European Minardi's two-seater at the Donington Park circuit on August 21.
Mansell, World Champion in 1992 with the Williams team, will be a key component of the "Thunder in the Park" day organised to bring Formula One closer to the fans. Mansell will join team owner Paul Stoddart, and European Minardi Formula One Fernando Alonso and Tarso Marques, as well as Malaysian Alex Yoong, all of them driving a total of five two-seaters.
"I often hear the complaint from motor racing fans that Formula One has become too inaccessible," said Stoddart. "The purpose of 'Thunder in the Park' is to try and remedy that in some small way, and we, at European Minardi, are more than pleased to be able to contribute to what is certain to be an exciting day for all those present.
"Nigel remains a massively popular figure with Grand Prix fans around the world, and we are honoured that he has agreed to drive one of our fleet of two-seater F1 cars at Donington. I'm sure his presence, both on and off the circuit, will ensure this is a highly successful event."
Activities on the day will also include an autograph session, pitlane walkabout, and demonstration runs by modern Formula One cars.
