Arrows test driver Johnny Herbert will realise an ambition on Tuesday when he tests a Champ Car on the oval circuit at the Rockingham Speedway.
Dale Coyne Racing have offered Herbert a test around the Northamptonshire circuit and the British driver plans to use it to land a drive for 2002.
"It's a fantastic opportunity to drive a Champ Car on an oval for the first time," Herbert said. "It will give me a good impression of what ovals are all about.
"It should be a good stepping stone for a drive next year. I've won in Formula One and at Le Mans and I'm hoping to get a competitive drive in Champ Cars and this should help."
Herbert could race in the round of the Champ Cars to be held at Rockingham in September if Sigma Racing secure the funding to run the British driver. Sigma are also rumoured to be ready to offer sacked Jordan driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen a similar chance for the German round of the championship to be held at the Lausitzring.
