Alain Prost could be set to relinquish control of his Formula One team before the Hungarian Grand Prix on August 19, according to the latest reports.
Rumours surrounding the French outfit indicate that the four-time World Champion could be on the verge of selling his stake of the team to Brazilian Pedro Diniz.
Former Formula One driver Diniz, son of a multi-millionaire supermarket owner in Brazil, purchased a "significant" stake in Prost in November last year, and serious financial problems could lead Alain Prost to sell the rest of the team to the Brazilian.
The Guyancourt-based outfit endured a torrid season last year, losing the financial backing of Gauloises, long-time title sponsor of the team, but despite the positive results in 2001, they are believed to be struggling to complete their budget for next season.
That is why, according to rumours at the German Grand Prix, Prost is holding talks with the Jordan team in order to sell Jean Alesi's contract so the Frenchman can drive for the Silverstone team following the departure of German Heinz-Harald Frentzen.
If Diniz does buy the team, it is believed that Prost could take an honourary role to continue his involvement with the outfit he created back in 1997.
