McLaren driver David Coulthard has signed a two-year extension of his contract with the Woking-based team, according to Friday's edition of Sportauto magazine.
Recent speculation around the Formula One paddock suggested that McLaren were due to announce that both Coulthard and Mika Hakkinen would stay with them after the 2001 season at this weekend's European Grand Prix, ending rumours about the Finn's possible retirement from the sport.
However, according to the magazine, Coulthard has already signed a two-year deal, but it is uncertain if Hakkinen will stay with McLaren too.
This way the Scot driver, who joined McLaren at the start of the 1996 season, would stay with the British outfit for a total of eight full seasons.
