The Arrows Formula One team could be set to use Nissan engines in 2002, according to the latest paddock rumours. The Leafield-based team announced they will ditch their current Asiatech units next year after a disappointing first half of the season.
Arrows boss Tom Walkinshaw said last week the team were already talking to three engines suppliers for 2002, and paddock speculation suggested initially that the British team could use this year's version of the Cosworth engine, currently used by the Jaguar team.
However, the latest rumours indicate that Walkinshaw could be close to reaching a deal with Renault - owners of the Benetton team - to use the French engines, which would be rebadged Nissan as the Japanese manufacturer is reportedly planning to enter Formula One for the first time.
French manufacturer Renault, who will rename the Benetton team next year to make their official return 25 years after their entry in Grand Prix racing, currently owns 36.8% of Nissan.
