Eddie Irvine's Jaguar future has been placed further in doubt after rumours surfaced that the team may take advantage of a performance clause which is believed to be in his contract.
The outspoken Ulsterman upset his team's bosses when he criticised the Jaguar R2 on its debut. He was put back into line by CEO Bobby Rahal, but it is thought that there is still a doubt hanging over his future.
Spaniard Pedro de la Rosa was drafted in as a test driver, and with Dario Franchitti, who tested the Jaguar last year, recently re-linked with a move into Formula One, Jaguar have plenty of options for the future.
Irvine's three-year £18 million (pounds) deal with the Milton Keynes-based team expires at the end of the 2002 season, but with De la Rosa promised a drive next year, the clause could enable Jaguar to oust the former Ferrari driver early.
