Alitalia Provides 'Sky Bridge' for Brazilian GP

Friday March 30th, 2001

Italian airline Alitalia has provided a "sky bridge" between Malaysia and Brazil for this Sunday's Formula One Grand Prix in Sao Paulo.

The airline flew 90 tons of cars and equipment for Formula One. The flight, an Alitalia B747-200F, left five days after the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang and reached Sao Paolo 22 hours later after a technical stop-over at Rome's Fiumicino airport.

Following Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix, Alitalia will operate three more flights for Formula One from Sao Paulo to Italy prior to the San Marino Grand Prix on April 15.

Alitalia's Cargo division will operate over 16 freighter flights for Formula One this season, flying Ferrari, Minardi, Prost and Sauber cars as well as TV equipment between races.

The airline will fly over 1,800 tons in total in about 250 hours of flying time.
