Ralf Wants to Race Under Austrian Flag

Friday March 30th, 2001

Williams driver Ralf Schumacher has caused big controversy in Germany in the eve of the Brazilian Grand Prix by saying he would like to race in Formula One with an Austrian license.

Schumacher, younger brother of triple world champion Michael, was born in Germany and currently represents that country. However, the 25-year old declared his intention of racing under the Austrian flag.

"I have a proposal to race with the Austrian license," Schumacher was quoted as saying on the Seitenblick magazine. "In Austria everything is easier, more open.

"I am German and I will continue to be, but I want to race for Austria, so both sides would be pleased."
