American tyre company Goodyear, the most successful manufacturer in the history of the sport, could be planning to return to Formula One after an absence of three years.
The Akron-based company has been out of the sport since the end of the 1998 season after scoring a record 368 Grand Prix wins following 33 years in Formula One.
The American company, who also pulled out from the CART championship in 1999, has undergone a major reshuffle in their management in recent years, and the new heads of the company are thought to be unhappy with the decision of leaving the sport.
If the rumours are confirmed, Goodyear would be most likely returning in 2003, thus joining current tyre suppliers Bridgestone and Michelin.
