Sato Scores Dominant Win in Macau

Sunday November 18th, 2001

Jordan new star Takuma Sato took a dominant win on Sunday's Formula Three Macau Grand Prix, his penultimate race in the category before making his Formula One racing debut next year.

The 24-year old Japanese, who will drive for the Honda-powered Jordan team in 2002 alongside Italian Giancarlo Fisichella, had started the race from second place after being beaten to pole position by Sweden's Bjorn Wirdheim on Friday.

But Sato, this year's British Formula Three champion after an impressive season where he scored a record number of wins, recovered well from the disappointment by taking a dominant win of Sunday, finishing in first place in both heats.

Sato finished ahead of pole man Wirdheim in the first race and beat Frenchman Benoit Treluyer in the second one.
