British Formula Three champion Takuma Sato's future is not yet decided, despite reports claiming the Japanese driver will land a seat with the Jordan team in 2002.
Sato, who is already a development driver for Jordan's Honda rivals British American Racing, is believed to be the favourite to secure a race drive with Jordan, but his manager Andrew Gilbert-Scott has indicated that negotiations are at a crucial stage and that he is considering all options available.
"We haven't decided what his future is at the moment but he has got his BAR testing seat and we have the option to continue that," said Gilbert-Scott. "We are certainly looking at Formula One. He won't be in F3 next season, there is an option to do F3000 but we don't consider that as a good option.
"We will keep making enquires until all the F1 seats have been taken up. If we can't get a seat then it is possible that he will continue his testing role full-time."
Eddie Jordan is believed to be keen to sign Sato with engine suppliers Honda set to revert to supplying just one team in 2003. If he had a Japanese driver on board that could tilt the balance his way over BAR.
