Arrows Looking at Frentzen and Alesi

Friday October 5th, 2001

Arrows are looking at Jean Alesi or Heinz Harald Frentzen for the 2002 season, reports in France and Germany reveal.

The L'Equipe newspaper earlier this week quoted Arrows commercial manager Daniele Audetto as saying: "We want (Heinz-Harald) Frentzen or Alesi in 2002." Furthermore, German newspaper Bild reports Frentzen's manager has been contacted by Arrows.

Alesi's seat at the Jordan team in believed to be in danger after speculation emerged that Japanese Takuma Sato is set to drive for the Silverstone-based outfit alongside Italian Giancarlo Fisichella. However, 37-year old Alesi has denied holding any talks with the Arrows team, and suggested that if he doesn't drive for Jordan next season, he may retire from Formula One.

"All these things about me driving for Arrows are not true," confirmed Alesi. "For me it is Jordan or nothing. It is clear from the moment I signed my contract with Jordan that an option for next year has been included."

Frentzen himself also states he would prefer to drive for Prost, but did not deny talking to the Arrows team as well. "We will wait and see," the German commented.
