German Formula One driver Ralf Schumacher has married girlfriend Cora Brinkmann in a private civil ceremony at home in Austria.

Heiner Buchinger, the 26-year-old Williams driver's spokesman, confirmed to Reuters that the marriage had taken place at the couple's new home in Hallwang, outside Salzburg.

Older brother Michael, Ferrari's four times Formula One World Champion, was not present at the low-key ceremony attended by a friend of each partner as witnesses. Buchinger said a church wedding was planned for after the birth of the couple's first child later in the year.

Schumacher is due to fly to Japan at the weekend for the season-ending Grand Prix at Suzuka.
