Montoya Receives UN Award

Friday October 26th, 2001

Colombian driver Juan Pablo Montoya has been awarded a medal by the United Nations for his job as Goodwill Ambassador in the past year.

The Williams star was named Colombia's Ambassador at the start of his year, joining another celebrities like Hollywood actors Michael Douglas and Danny Glover, former boxing star Muhammad Ali and Brazilian football player Ronaldo amongst others.

"I try to help by carrying Colombia's flag on my shoulders, making the country known elsewhere, but that is only an image," said Montoya. "It is important to keep working on the image, but we also have to do more for our children.

"They are the future of Colombia and of the rest of the world, and the UN's effort has to be supported, because this is a very big program."
