Organisers of the proposed new Premier-1 Grand Prix series are determined to go ahead with plans to start in March 2003 despite the collapse of cars manufacturers Reynard.
The series aims to link motor racing with football and has already signed up English Premiership high-fliers Leeds United to back one of the cars.
Brackley-based Reynard developed the Formula One-style machines for the all-new series but after they declared bankruptcy last week, the Premier-1 plans are now up in the air.
"I wouldn't talk about a setback but we definitely have to review the situation," admitted Premier-1 press officer Christian Scholbrook. "Reynard's financial situation is a surprise to us and we are reviewing our position with the company."
Premier-1 could buy the chassis design from Reynard and use another company to run them to save further development costs. The future of the series remains in doubt however, as they have revealed only four clubs out of a planned 22 have officially signed to race.
