Friday April 12th, 2002

F1 Fans to Get New Weather Service Formula One fans will be given an innovative insight into Grands Prix before they happen - with the British Met Office launching a new weather forecasting service.

The Met Office have introduced a new website ahead of this weekend's San Marino Grand Prix detailing exclusive weather information that lies in store for Imola.

They will offer the same service for the remaining Grands Prix of the 2002 season with five-day information being made available to fans prior to events.

The Met Office's Steve Wickham said: "The weather has a huge bearing on races, from the type of tyres used to the driving strategies of competitors.

"Some drivers perform better in different types of weather so the information we are offering is great for all enthusiasts. We launched a similar service last year and the response was phenomenal."
