Damien Hirst May Take Brush to Jaguar Car

Thursday April 18th, 2002

Damien Hirst May Take Brush to Jaguar CarDamien Hirst, the British artist famous for slashing and pickling a shark, may soon have the chance to express his talents on a more mobile "canvas" - a Formula One race car, Jaguar Racing have said.

"We are talking with Damien about the possibility of him painting one of our Formula One cars," company spokesman Nav Sidhu told Reuters.

If the deal goes ahead Hirst, the doyen of the BritArt pack, will have the opportunity to put his mark on a car costing several hundred thousand pounds.

But racing fans will not see Jaguar drivers Eddie Irvine and Pedro de la Rosa blasting around the world's race tracks in any Hirst-adorned car.

"We will not be racing with any car Damien paints. But it is possible we might exhibit the car on the Formula One tour," Sidhu said.

He refused to be drawn as to how much "A Damien Hirst Jaguar" might be worth, but some of the artist's work is extremely popular with art collectors and sells for six figure sums.

A spokeswoman at Damien Hirst's company Science said the deal with Jaguar was still in the process of being worked out.

"Everything is at a very early stage," she said.
