Alesi on the Podium on DTM Debut

Monday April 22nd, 2002

Alesi on the Podium on DTM Debut Former Grand Prix driver Jean Alesi claimed a podium finish on his German Touring Car Championship (DTM) debut as he made an impressive start to saloon car racing.

Frenchman Alesi finished the opening round of the DTM series at Hockenheim in third to steal the headlines on his Mercedes-Benz debut.

Alesi, who had spells with Tyrrell, Ferrari, Benetton, Sauber and Prost, quit Formula One at the end of the 2001 season after failing to land an extended deal with Jordan.

Laurent Aiello scored a dominant victory for Audi in the season-opener after powering off the line and led home fellow Audi driver Mattias Ekstrom.
