Michael Schumacher has been nominated for the World Sportsman of the Year Award after he claimed the fourth Formula One world title of his career in 2001.
The Ferrari driver is one of five nominees for the award, which is part of the Laureus World Sports Awards - the only worldwide awards ceremony - to be held in Monte Carlo on May 14.
Schumacher is nominated alongside cyclist Lance Armstrong, athlete Maurice Greene, swimmer Ian Thorpe and golfer Tiger Woods for the prize. The German driver was already nominated for the award last year, but lost out to Woods.
Schumacher's Ferrari team are up for the World Team of the Year Award along with the Australian cricket team, Bayern Munich Football Club, the French Davis Cup team and the Los Angeles Lakers basketball outfit.
Williams' Juan Pablo Montoya is one of five names put forward for the World Newcomer of the Year Award following his impressive debut season in Formula One.
