Schumacher Criticised by Bild for Not Voting

Thursday April 25th, 2002

Schumacher Criticised by Bild for Not VotingGermany's top-selling newspaper Bild criticised Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher on Thursday after the Ferrari driver admitted he had never voted.

"Should a big sports idol and an example for millions talk about boycotting elections?" Bild wrote in a front-page story.

The criticism follows a Schumacher interview with German magazine Max during which he admitted he had never voted.

"I must say, to be honest, that I have never voted," Schumacher said.

"The eternal discussions between the government and the opposition are just a show for the media," the 33-year-old German added. "Bringing convincing solutions to problems that do exist comes second."

Schumacher currently leads the Formula One World Championship by 14 points from his younger brother Ralf, who drives for the Williams team.
