Olympique Lyon Join Premier-1

Leeds previously joined Premier-1French champions Olympique Lyon have become the latest high-profile soccer club to back the Premier 1 Grand Prix championship, organisers have announced.

The new motor sport series has already secured the participation of Dutch UEFA Cup champions Feyenoord, Portugal's Benfica, Anderlecht of Belgium and English premier league sides Chelsea and Leeds United.

Lyon are the first French club to commit to the single class championship but organisers are hoping to announce two more French sides in the next few weeks.

The Premier 1 Grand Prix championship to be launched next year will pitch some of the world's leading soccer clubs into a Formula One competition.

It will comprise of 10 to 12 races throughout Europe, with each soccer club represented by one driver on the 24-car grid.
