An excited crowd of 25,000 watched European Minardi's unique two-seater Formula One race on Sunday with the Thunder in the Park 2 event including the return to action of former World Champion Damon Hill.
Minardi regulars Mark Webber and Alex Yoong joined Hill along with team owner Paul Stoddart for the event, which raised money for charity.
Celebrities including singer Gabrielle and ITV's F1 reporter Beverley Turner were given rides in the two-seater cars but they were no match for the combination of Formula One hopeful Giorgio Pantano and passenger boxer Chris Eubank.
The event was aimed at raising money for two charities and to bring Formula One closer and more accessible to the public. The three-day programme was a success raising more than $500,000 for the chosen charities.
"What a fantastic day," said Minardi team owner Paul Stoddart. "My heartfelt thanks go to everyone involved with this fantastic event, particularly to Damon Hill, who gave freely of his time, to all other drivers, who did such a fantastic job, but most of all to the 150 staff of European Minardi, European Aviation, and indeed the whole European group.
"Special thanks must go to Murray Walker, for coming out of retirement and commentating live on his first F1 'race' for nearly two [one] years. It has been a wonderful event."
