 Schumacher to Donate €1 Million to Flood Fund Friday August 16th, 2002
Floods have killed nearly 100 people in Germany, Russia, Austria and the Czech Republic over the last week, after torrential rain sent a huge surge of water through river systems. Five-time World Champion Schumacher will donate the money to a televised relief fund set up by the German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, called "Hope is the last thing to die." "The pictures I saw made a strong impression. It is really terrible," said Schumacher in Hungary. "I am German and so I want to do something for the people who are going through difficult times right now, especially for those who are not in a financial position to deal with the situation. I want to give what I can." The programme goes out this evening on Germany's main TV channel, ARD.
