Ralf Schumacher Facing Driving Ban

Monday December 9th, 2002

Ralf Schumacher Facing Driving BanRalf Schumacher is facing another driving ban after being caught by Austrian police travelling 30 mph above the speed limit as he headed to his BMW employers' end of year party, British newspapers reported today.

Schumacher was banned from driving for two weeks last year after being caught doing 105 mph in a 60 mph zone and was taken to court in 1996 when a police helicopter called him in for driving badly.

The Williams-BMW driver, who won one race this year, was clocked at 80 mph and committed another offence as he did not have his driving licence on him and will now hand it into his local police station.

"The officers asked his name and when he said it was Ralf Schumacher they were surprised to say the least," a police spokesman told the Daily Star. "Ralf was able to confirm his identity by showing them his car insurance documents."

He now faces a long-term ban from driving on the road but would retain his superlicence to race in Formula One. "When he hands in his licence he probably won't get it back," a policeman involved in the incident told the Daily Mirror.
