Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone will axe his digital television project and around 300 people will lose their jobs as a consequence, according to The Sun newspaper.
Ecclestone already announced last month that his company had closed down all digital pay-per-view services of the Formula One World Championship, and the 72-year old Briton said he would use the huge digital resources to provide an improved terrestrial coverage of the 2003 season.
The promise, however, has suffered a big setback as The Sun reported that due to the lack of demand from the public, Ecclestone will close down the digital operation and around 70 per cent of the staff working in Biggin Hill, Kent, will be made redundant.
The 2002 season saw television viewing figures taking a slump as a consequence of the dominance from World Champion Michael Schumacher.
