Former Jaguar Racing test driver Tomas Scheckter has landed a drive in America's Indy Racing league with the team run by ex-Formula One star Eddie Cheever.
South African Scheckter, 21, was given a chance to impress during testing and held off stiff competition from Jeff Ward, Al Unser jnr and Dan Wheldon to land the oval-racing drive.
Scheckter, the son of 1979 Formula One World Champion Jody, was dumped by Jaguar last year after being found guilty of soliciting a prostitute. He spent last season in Formula Nissan before the IRL switch.
"Joining Red Bull Cheever Racing is an unbelievable opportunity," said Scheckter. "Two months ago I never would have imagined I would be in this position. I am lucky to be driving in the Indy Racing League with one of the best teams on pitlane."
