Schumacher Insures Himself for £51 Million

Thursday January 3rd, 2002

Schumacher Insures Himself for £51 Million World Champion Michael Schumacher will start the new Formula One season in Melbourne certain that he is protected if anything goes wrong after insuring himself for a reported £51 million.

The Ferrari driver, who turns 33 today, has insured himself against injury for £51 million, according to Swiss magazine 'Sport Bild'.

Four-time World Champion Schumacher is thought to have a yearly income of £31.3 million (pounds) and will receive significant pay-outs if he suffers a repeat of the broken leg he suffered at Silverstone in 1999. He escaped unharmed from a dramatic roll at the start of the 2001 season in Australia, and suffered two testing crashes during last season.

The German was also hit from the rear by the Prost of Luciano Burti at the start of the German Grand Prix. A spokesperson for Schumacher refused to confirm details of his insurance, and added: "I am sure he would not want the exact details released."
