British driver Justin Wilson believes he is being ignored for a Formula One drive because of his six-foot-four-inch (1.95 meters) frame.
Wilson, who won the prestigious F3000 Championship last year, has been linked to the vacant seat at the Minardi team after failing to land a deal elsewhere. Yorkshireman Wilson, 23, missed out on a drive with Jordan to Japan's Takuma Sato last September, despite proving his speed in several tests with the Silverstone-based team.
"It gets annoying because people think I'm too tall," said Wilson. "It's frustrating, but the fact is that I've done quick lap times. They think that because I'm tall the weight of the car is higher and people claim that it affects the speed. The fact is I've proved I'm fast."
Minardi boss Paul Stoddart would prefer to sign an experienced driver to team-up with young Malaysian driver Alex Yoong this season, with German Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Dutchman Jos Verstappen top of the list. Verstappen could be ousted at Arrows for Frentzen, but if Stoddart does not agree a deal with either then Wilson will face a head-to-head battle with Australian Mark Webber for the vacant seat.
"My aim is still to get in F1 and to try and win against the best drivers in the world," he added. "F1 is still a possibility, but Champcars in America is the main opportunity at the moment."
