Montoya Set to Re-Sign with Williams

Wednesday June 12th, 2002

Montoya Set to Re-Sign with WilliamsWilliams are expected to make an announcement at the British Grand Prix next month that Juan Pablo Montoya has extended his contract with the Grove-based team.

Team boss Sir Frank Williams currently has an option on the former Champ Car driver until 2004 but paddock rumours suggest that he will commit to signing Montoya following his pole position performances in Monaco and Canada.

The decision means that Briton Jenson Button will have to look elsewhere for a drive in 2003, and will free him to negotiate a new deal with current team Renault.
