A British businessman named Charles Nickerson is believed to be the man behind the purchase of the failed Prost Grand Prix team, according to the latest reports from the Australian Grand Prix paddock.
Arrows boss Tom Walkinshaw announced earlier on Friday that his company Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) would provide engineering expertise to the buyers of the Prost team, but the Scot refused to give the name of the company behind the purchase of the French squad.
Prost were placed into liquidation at the end of January, with estimated debts of around $28 million, and it is believed that Mr. Nickerson, who is apparently linked to the poultry industry, was offered the team in mid-February.
The French court which was in charge of Prost's case ordered at the end of January that a group of lawyers found a buyer for Prost's 2001 cars and their intellectual property rights, with Nickerson finally purchasing the package for an estimated 2.5 million euros ($2.1 million).
According to Walkinshaw, the new team could be competing at the Malaysian Grand Prix in two weeks time or at the Brazilian Grand Prix on March 31, although it is uncertain which engines, tyres or drivers the squad will use in case they are capable of competing.
Ferrari, who provided engines to the Prost team, have already said that they will not supply to a second team this year, and some insiders believe that the new cars could be powered by Hart engines.
