Ulsterman Eddie Irvine has lost out in his legal battle with radio station TalkSport over the use of his image - despite winning the case.

The Jaguar racer, whose photo was doctored by the company for promotional purposes, won £2,000 in damages but was forced to pay out an estimated £300,000 in legal fees.

The photo, which originally showed Irvine with a mobile phone held to his ear, was altered to show a radio with the company's logo displayed.

Irvine had rejected an out-of-court offer of £5,000 from TalkSport in April, so the judge ruled he should pay the legal costs for both sides involved in the case.
