Peugeot motorsports boss Corrado Provera has denied rumours claiming the French marquee was planning to return to Formula One racing.
The French manufacturer pulled out of Formula One at the end of the 2000 season after a disastrous year in which they provided engines to the now extinct Prost team, who failed to score a point that year.
According to reports in the German press, Provera was preparing to launch a full Peugeot team to return to Formula One, but the Italian has refuted those claims, saying that Peugeot is committed to the rallies.
"Peugeot returning to Formula One has been a silly rumour," Provera told Motorsport News magazine. "This is not the strategy of the company, and not in Peugeot's culture. Look at how happy we are in rallying – rallying is in Peugeot's culture."
After leaving Formula One, Peugeot won both the World Rally Drivers' and Manufacturers' Championships in 2000 with their 206WRC car and are currently leading the 2002 championship after winning four of the first five rallies of the year.
