Button to Drive R202 at Goodwood Festival

Friday May 10th, 2002

Button to Drive R202 at Goodwood FestivalJenson Button will be driving this year's Renault R202 car at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed alongside Swiss legend Clay Regazzoni, it was announced on Friday.

The festival, which takes place from July 12-14, has already announced that they hope six Grand Prix teams, including McLaren, Williams and Jordan, will be making appearances. For Button the event will be an interesting diversion from the pressures of the season and a good opportunity to show off the new car to the British public.

"Goodwood is great," said Button. "Last summer I wobbled up the hill in a 1902 Renault - this year I'll be in the 2002 F1 car and giving it a good blast for the crowds. It is an event I look forward to as a good fun break in the middle of the season."

Unlike Button, Regazzoni has not confirmed his ride yet but the former Ferrari and Williams driver will be at the event despite the injuries he suffered in his infamous accident in 1980.

The Swiss legend will be overcoming the paralysis that resulted from that crash by utilising special hand controls to allow him to tour the circuit.
