Schumacher Could Drop Swiss House Plans

Wednesday May 15th, 2002

Schumacher Could Drop Swiss House PlansWorld Champion Michael Schumacher could drop his plans to build a luxury villa in the Swiss Alps, according to reports in Switzerland.

The Ferrari driver's lawyer Peter Munch told Swissinfo that Schumacher will 'probably' abandon plans to build a new home in the Wolfhalden village after talks with local residents and environmental groups on Tuesday.

Schumacher currently lives in French-speaking west Switzerland but had hoped to build a new home on a 17-hectare site with a swimming pool and stables. But Munch said that the plans are likely to be shelved because of the opposition from environmentalists, with planning permission expected to be held up.

Schumacher's project included re-designating land that is currently used for agriculture and environmental groups are strongly opposing the plans.
