Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher faced a different opponent this morning when he raced against a Eurofighter jet in Italy.
This time, however, the Ferrari driver was unable to beat his rival.
Six-time champion Schumacher, driving his F2003-GA car, competed against Italy air force's Maurizio Cheli and his Eurofighter Typhoon at the Grosseto airport, in central Italy, in three races on parallel runways.
The German driver was the winner of the 600-meter race, finishing 0.2 seconds ahead of the jet. In the longer 900 and 1,200-metre races, however, the Ferrari driver's top speed was not enough and lost by 0.2 and 2.5 seconds.
"It was an interesting experience," a smiling Schumacher said after the race.
The Eurofighter's top speed in the air is approximately 1,520 mph.
