Minardi today denied reports they are planning to buy cars from a rival team and run them in next year's Formula One World Championship to save money.
Team owner Paul Stoddart said that, although he supported a new rule allowing smaller or new outfits to buy cars from the bigger teams and save millions of pounds in designing their own machines, he doubted he would take up the option.
"I think it's a very good rule but, to be honest, I'm very happy with our new car and in a few months we'll already be starting to think about the design of next year's chassis," said Stoddart.
Max Mosley, president of the sport's governing body the FIA, is keen to attract more privateer teams, such as Minardi and Jordan, back into Formula One by cutting costs with a range of new, hard-hitting regulations.
