Five-time World Champion Michael Schumacher and Formula One ringmaster Bernie Ecclestone have topped the earnings list for 2002 in Sports Business magazine's Wealth Management survey.
Schumacher, who dominated the 2002 season with his Ferrari team to clinch his fifth title, topped the "Top 20 Wealthiest Sports Stars" category with an annual wage of £63 million ($103 million), while BAR driver and former champion Jacques Villeneuve came in 14th in the table with £13.5 million ($22.2 million) to his name.
Ecclestone, who owns the commercial rights to the sport, was the biggest earner of European sports executives for the year, and his estimate worth stands on £2.8 billion ($4.7 billion).
Also in the European sports executives list were Eddie Jordan, third with £88 million ($145 million), fourth-placed Sir Jackie Stewart - £68 million ($112 million) - and BAR boss David Richards, who was estimated at £50 million ($82 million) to come fifth in the category.
