US Grand Prix Could be Moved to June Date

Tuesday July 8th, 2003

US Grand Prix Could be Moved to June DateThe United States Formula One Grand Prix could be moved forward next year and be hosted as early as June, reports in the US media suggest.

The Indianapolis race is currently the penultimate round of the Championship, and the first four Grands Prix held there have taken place at the end of September.

Reports in the American press, however, suggest the race looks set to take place on June 20, less than a month after the Indianapolis 500, in order to have both the US and Canadian Grands Prix ran back-to-back.

"It would definitely present some challenges and it would also have some advantages as well since it would be coming off the first F1 race in North America," Ron Green, director of public relations of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway told ESPN.

"If it happened, obviously there are a lot of variables to consider."

Formula One's ruling body, the FIA, revealed last month the dates reserved for the 2004 Grand Prix calendar. The FIA, however, did not say which countries will hold the races on those dates.
