Pitstop Tricks Help UK Army Helicopter Crews

Pitstop Tricks Help UK Army Helicopter CrewsThe British Army has halved refuelling times for its Apache helicopter fleet after studying the pitstop routine of Formula One teams.

After a proposal last year by an army brigadier, a consultant engineer from motor racing's governing body visited the School of Army Aviation to look at ground crews in action.

Personnel from the British Army Air Corps were also invited to Grands Prix to watch pit stop procedures during races.

"These exchanges led to a number of relatively minor changes which when implemented together have made the complete procedure more efficient, contributing towards cutting the rearming and refuelling time for an Apache by 50 percent," a statement from the FIA governing body said today.
