Top jockey Frankie Dettori showed Ferrari's Formula One ace Michael Schumacher how to crack the whip on Thursday.

The two, both masters at harnessing horsepower, met at a sponsorship event at Silverstone with Italian Dettori presenting the five times World Champion with a racing whip ahead of Sunday's British Grand Prix.

He jokingly suggested that Schumacher could use it to coax more speed out of his car.

"I wish it were as easy as that," said the entertained but slightly bemused German. "I was hoping he would give me some tips on horsepower.

"I just had a five minute chat with him," added Schumacher, whose wife Corinna keeps horses and is an expert rider. "A nice guy but I don't know much more about him."

Dettori, a top name in his sport for over a decade, enjoyed his latest big race success last Sunday when he won the Irish Oaks at The Curragh on 12-1 chance Vintage Tipple.
