Former World Champion Jacques Villeneuve is being linked with a move to Renault and Toyota next season when his contract with BAR-Honda expires.
Villeneuve's current deal with Brackley-based BAR ends this season and he has been told he will have to take a major cut from the estimated £14 million he is earning this year to remain with the team.
Rumours at the Monaco Grand Prix suggested that Canadian Villeneuve is wanted by both Renault, in place of Jarno Trulli, and Toyota as the man to spearhead their quest to make an impression in the sport.
Villeneuve, who endured another retirement in Monte Carlo on Sunday, is well known to Renault after he won the 1997 title for Williams using the French manufacturers' engines. A paddock source, however, suggested that Renault are not keen on signing Villeneuve as teammate to Fernando Alonso.
